About the Makerspace

The SEA Makerspace is a creative studio is operated by the UWF Department of Art and Design in Historic Downtown Pensacola. The studio is devoted to interdisciplinary practice—the SEA is an acronym for ‘science, engineering, and art’ in recognition of our commitment to creative collaboration. The SEA Makerspace studio is located within the Museum of Commerce adjacent to the SEA 3D Additive Lab and Department of Mechanical Engineering SEA CNC Lab.

History of the Makerspace

In 2017, the Makerspace project proposal was awarded a $250,000 grant. Faculty in the UWF Department of Art and Design and the Reubin O’D. Askew Institute for Multidisciplinary Studies spearheaded the development’s space.

Available resources include a laser cutter and engraver, woodworking tools, a vinyl printer, industrial sewing machine and embroidery sewing machine.

A partial list of tools and facilities:

  • CNC tech—including laser etching, milling, vinyl cutting
    soldering/PCB fabrication
  • Fabrics technology - embroidery, sewing, cutting tables
    handtools - power and manual
  • Work benches
  • AV equipment
  • Awesome technicians!

Phase 1 welcomes UWF staff, faculty and students to utilize the space’s resources. Introductory training will be required.

Hours of operation are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 4:30-7:30 p.m. or/and by appointment. These open hours are subject to change according to the Museum of Commerce event schedule. For information or to set up an appointment, email makerspace@uwf.edu
