Smykla Degrees: Courses Regularly Taught: CCJ 4700 Research Design in Criminal Justice CJC 4010 Punishment and Society Current Research Interests: My primary research interests include (1) an historical analysis of the contributions of African Americans in 19th century southern law enforcement; (2) outcome evaluation of federal reentry court; (3) institutional and community-based corrections; and (4) comparative criminal justice. Community and Professional Service: My academic citizenship activities in synergy with my teaching and research interests include (1) working with the US District Court for the Northern District of Florida on the outcomes of reentry of offenders from federal prison; (2) member of the Mobile County (Alabama) Jail to reduce jail overcrowding; and (3) member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Ad Hoc Policy Committee to establish policy expert areas and topics. |
