1. What countries do students enrolled in the Intensive English Program represent?
Our students come from Asia, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

2. How many levels are there?
There are five levels in the IEP. The IEP accepts students from high beginner to advanced.

3. How large are the classes?
Classes have up to, but no more than, 15 students.

4. Who are the teachers at the Program?
The teachers at the program are experienced professionals with degrees in TESOL, English, foreign language, or related teaching degrees. They combine traditional with new and innovative teaching techniques.

5. What certificates are awarded at the Intensive English Program?
A certificate is given to students who meet attendance requirements and obtain a grade of C or above in every subject.

6. How long are the sessions?
Fall and Spring Semesters offer 15 weeks of study. Summer study is 12 or 6 weeks. Students may study for shorter periods of time but must begin at the start of the semester and list the last day of study on the application form. I-20s will not be issued for periods of less than one month. Students typically study for one or two semesters or up to 2 years depending on their level of English and their progress in the program.

7. How many hours a week do students attend class?
Students attend class 20 hours a week from Monday through Friday.

8. What subjects are taught?
Subjects taught include reading/writing listening/speaking, and grammar.

9. How are the classes taught?
Our teachers use lectures, small group activities, written and oral presentations such as book reports, paired exercises, and guest speakers. English is spoken in the classroom. At the advanced level, students practice how to give oral reports, write research papers and learn other skills that are required for success in a university classroom.

10. Does the program offer any other classes besides Intensive English?
Electives such as TOEFL or IELTS preparation may be offered for an additional charge.

11. Where do students live?
Some students live on campus in university housing, and others live in houses and apartments off campus. The university website has a link to housing which includes prices and floor plans.

12. What is the cost of studying at the Intensive English Program?
The cost is $3450 for a 15-week semester in the Fall and Spring and $2800 for the 12-week Summer session.

13. How do I apply to the program?
The necessary forms are on this site. These include an application, a financial statement and medical forms. Return all completed and signed forms with a copy of high school diploma or transcript as well as a check or money order for the $100 application fee. UWF will issue the I-20 and you can apply for your student visa.

14. How far in advance do I need to apply?
Students should apply as soon as they know they want to attend an American university. Because of the time it takes to issue documents and schedule visa appointments, allow about 3 months if possible. [The form I-20 will not be issued earlier than 120 days prior to the start date of the program you intend to enroll in.]

15. Is it possible for students who complete the Intensive English Program to attend UWF without taking the TOEFL?
IEP students who complete the advanced class with an average of 88 in every subject and score 78 or higher on the exit test are eligible for admission to the University of West Florida if they meet other requirements of the university.
