1. What countries do students enrolled in the Intensive English Program represent?
Our students come from Asia, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

2. How many levels are there?
There are always at least three levels and sometimes as many as five.

3. How large are the classes?
Classes have up to, but no more than, 15 students.

4. Who are the teachers at the Program?
The teachers at the program are experienced professionals with degrees in TESOL, English, or foreign language, or related teaching degrees. They combine traditional with new and innovative teaching techniques.

5. What certificates are awarded at the Intensive English Program?
A certificate is given to students who meet all requirements stated in the certificate contract, including obtaining a grade of C or above in every subject.

6. How long are the sessions?
Spring and Fall Semesters are 14 weeks each, with two 7-week options available for students unable to attend a full semester. Summer semester is 12 weeks, with two 6-week options available.

7. How many hours a week do students attend class?
Students attend class 20 hours a week, or four hours a day.

8. What subjects are taught?
Subjects taught include grammar, reading, vocabulary, writing, listening and speaking.

9. How are the classes taught?
Our teachers use lectures, small group activities, written and oral presentations such as book reports, paired exercises, and guest speakers. English is spoken in the classroom.

10. Does the program offer any other classes besides Intensive English?
There is a more advanced class, English for non-Native Speakers, for students admitted to the university who still need more practice in grammar and writing. We offer TOEFL preparation, accent reduction, business English and other classes if there is enough demand for them.

11. Where do students live?
Some students live on campus in university housing and others in houses and apartments off campus. The university site has a link to housing which includes prices and floor plans.

12. What is the cost of studying at the Intensive English Program?
Spring 2008 Semester will be $2,950 for tuition and books. Summer Semester is $2,500 including books. Tuition is subject to increase.

13. How do I apply to the program?
You can find the necessary forms and information on this site. The forms include an application, a medical history and immunization form, and a financial statement. Return all of the forms together and completely filled out with the $100 application fee. We will issue the I-20 when needed and you can apply for your visa to study at the Intensive English Program.

14. How far in advance do I need to apply?
Students should apply as soon as they know they want to attend an American university. Because of the time it takes to issue documents and schedule visa appointments, allow about 3 months if possible. The form I-20 will not be issued earlier than 120 days prior to the start date of the program you intend to enroll in.

15. Is it possible for students who complete the Intensive English Program to attend UWF without taking the TOEFL?
Beginning in the fall of 2008, it is possible for IEP students to enter the University of West Florida without one of the standard English proficiency tests. IEP students who complete the high-advanced class with an average of B+ (88) and score 78 or higher on the IEP exit test (MELICET) are eligible for admission to the University of West Florida if they meet other requirements of the university.
