1. What countries do students enrolled in the Intensive English Program represent?
Our students come from Asia, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

2. How many levels are there?
There are four levels in the IEP. The IEP accepts students from high beginner to advanced.

3. How large are the classes?
Classes have up to, but no more than, 15 students.

4. Who are the teachers at the Program?
The teachers at the program are experienced professionals with degrees in TESOL, English, or foreign language, or related teaching degrees. They combine traditional with new and innovative teaching techniques.

5. What certificates are awarded at the Intensive English Program?
A certificate is given to students who meet all requirements stated in the certificate contract, including obtaining a grade of C or above in every subject.

6. How long are the sessions?
There are six sessions a year: four 7-week sessions plus two 6-week sessions in summer.

7. How many hours a week do students attend class?
Students attend class 20 hours a week from Monday through Thursday. Electives such as TOEFL preparation are offered on Friday mornings for additional fees.

8. What subjects are taught?
Subjects taught include grammar, reading, writing, vocabulary, and oral communication. Advanced students participate in debate.

9. How are the classes taught?
Our teachers use lectures, small group activities, written and oral presentations such as book reports, paired exercises, and guest speakers. English is spoken in the classroom.

10. Does the program offer any other classes besides Intensive English?
Electives may be offered on Friday mornings for additional fees. These may include, TOEFL preparation, GRE/GMAT preparation, business English, accent reduction among other classes.

11. Where do students live?
Some students live on campus in university housing and others in houses and apartments off campus. The university site has a link to housing which includes prices and floor plans.

12. What is the cost of studying at the Intensive English Program?
The cost is $1550 for a 7-week session, increasing to $1650 for a 7-week session in fall of 2009. Each 6-week summer session is $1400.

13. How do I apply to the program?
The necessary forms are on this site. These include an application with a financial statement and medical forms. Return all completed and signed forms with a copy of high school diploma or transcript as well as a check or money order for the $100 application fee. UWF will issue the I-20 when needed and you can apply for your student visa.

14. How far in advance do I need to apply?
Students should apply as soon as they know they want to attend an American university. Because of the time it takes to issue documents and schedule visa appointments, allow about 3 months if possible. The form I-20 will not be issued earlier than 120 days prior to the start date of the program you intend to enroll in.

15. Is it possible for students who complete the Intensive English Program to attend UWF without taking the TOEFL?
UWF has now made it possible for IEP to have conditional admission to the university if they meet two requirements. IEP students who complete the advanced class with an average of 88 in every subject and score 78 or higher on the exit test are eligible for admission to the University of West Florida if they meet other requirements of the university.
