The Impact:
The Endowment Challenge
- Upon the successful completion of the endowment challenge, the Johnson Scholarship Foundation will gift $600,000 to UWF which, with state match, would establish a $1.02 million Johnson Scholarship Foundation endowment within the UWF Foundation.
- When combined with UWF’s response to the challenge, the anticipated gifts and state match will provide approximately $2.5 million in new need-based endowed scholarships.
- These funds will annually support about 100 students with financial need, helping them to obtain a higher education.
- With the growth of the endowment, the number of scholarship recipients will also grow having an even greater impact on our community and our region.

The First Generation Scholarship Annual Challenge
- In contrast to endowment support, the goal of this challenge will be to provide immediate support to students. This gift will be used to challenge donors to contribute to the First Generation Scholarship and maximize matching funds from the State of Florida.
- Annual gifts will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the State of Florida through its existing First Generation Scholarship Matching Grant Program. While the maximum dollar-for-dollar match available to UWF from the State of Florida fluctuates annually, is estimated to be approximately $200,000 per year.
- Upon successful completion of the first generation scholarship annual challenge, it is expected that more than 2,000 first generation students will have received scholarship support.
- Awards will be made to first generation college students with financial need. The result will be more than $2 million awarded to these students over a five-year period, as summarized below.
