Pensacola History & Archaeology for Grades 7-9
A one-week social studies enrichment camp that will immerse campers in hands on activities in history and archaeology. Campers will visit an archaeology lab, museums, historic sites, and archival collections in downtown Pensacola.
Students will:
- Build a deep appreciation of Pensacola's rich history and archaeology
- Create and instill stewardship for local cultural resources
- Expose and educate campers about career opportunities in Social Studies
- Learn about the history and archaeology of St. Michael's Cemetery, one of the two oldest cemeteries in Florida
- Work in Florida the Florida Public Archaeology Network's archaeology lab to help sort artifacts recovered from local sites
- Experience historic hands-on crafts and activities
- Research, design, create, and present their own museum exhibit

Learning Outcomes »
Through this camp and its activities, campers will be engaging in life skills such as working in groups, presenting ideas clearly, problem solving, and critical thinking.
The final showcase is a museum exhibit that will take place on Friday from 11:45-12:30. This showcase will demonstrate knowledge learned throughout the week of camp.
