- Academic Technology Center --
The Academic Technology Center was created to support the goals and imperatives of the University’s IT Strategic Plan. Consequently, ATC serves as a catalyst for the development and application of new technologies that facilitate effective teaching and learning in distance education environments.
- ClassMate --
This service provides instructors with a list of the courses they are scheduled to teach. It also provides links to class rosters, final exam date/time, class meeting times, course descriptions and prerequisites. For each course, the instructor may also record the location of the online syllabus and set technology codes. A link to student GroupMail is available for each course. Instructors may submit an electronic reservation request for their technology-enhanced classroom preference for course delivery. Instructors will access ClassMate through their ClassMate app in MyUWF, the University web portal.
- eClassroom User Guide -- eClassrooms are UWF’s most technologically advanced classrooms and they are surprisingly easy to use. eClassrooms allow you to view and project VHS movies and DVDs, transparencies, printed documents, three dimensional objects, and images from your computer using a single touch panel. This guide will serve as your cheat sheet as you explore the various teaching tools available to you as an eClassroom instructor.
- Distance Learning -- The University of West Florida is committed to offering courses, programs, and certificates using a variety of distance learning strategies to meet the diverse needs of students that we serve. Therefore, distance education courses are developed around a framework of policies, principles, and guidelines of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the Sloan Consortium, the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) and the Principles of Good Practice for Higher Education Institutions providing Voluntary Distance Education Programs to members of the U.S. Armed Forces & their families.
- eDesktop -- eDesktop is a virtual computer lab that allows UWF students, faculty, and staff to access university-licensed computer applications via the Internet. When using eDesktop, it appears as though you are sitting in front of a workstation in a Campus Computer Lab - complete with the most frequently used computer applications. Essentially, eDesktop allows you to work on a lab computer from home or any location with a high-speed Internet connection.
- Hi-Tech Classroom User Guide -- Hi-Tech Classrooms include everything you need to connect your laptop to the podium. The hinged top
of the podium (or the top surface of the podium, in some rooms) contains remote controls for the
projector and the DVD/VCR along with complete instructions. Not all Hi-Tech Classrooms work the
same way, therefore please refer to the chart attached to your podium for room-specific operating
instructions.
- Instructional Media -- All UWF faculty, students, and staff can publish audio and video content in a variety of ways through the UWF servers. UWF instructors use these technologies to supplement classroom learning and as an integral part of online classes.
- Labs and Classrooms -- UWF has three computer labs for general-purpose use, along with many college-run labs with software and resources specifically for students in that college. Two of the general-purpose labs, SAIL and CyberLounge, are run by ITS. These labs offer high-end Windows PCs, laser printers, high-speed Internet, DVD drives, CD burners, and other standard equipment, and a wide variety of software to meet the academic needs of UWF students. General-purpose labs are free to use and open to all students, faculty, and staff.
- "Our Training" Series -- "Our Training" Series is a series of courses designed for the faculty member or adjunct who has assigned responsibility for teaching online courses. The series addresses very basic concepts in course design pedagogy, but also provides some far reaching strategies for engaging students fully while online. The process assists faculty members in planning for, designing, implementing, and maintaining online courses.
