Teaching Partners Program
Information and Peer Observation Workshop
An effective practice to improve teaching is to engage in informed reflection on one’s teaching practices. Faculty can obtain useful information about practices that work well in their classrooms and suggestions about areas that might need attention by asking a peer to visit their classroom and observe their teaching.
Faculty who participate in Teaching Partners identify one or more peer partners to engage in mutual mentoring for teaching, including peer classroom observations. Peer classroom observations and follow-up discussions benefit both participants in a peer mentoring observation. The person whose teaching is observed will benefit from constructive feedback about teaching strategies, including discussions about new or alternative strategies that might be implemented. The person doing the classroom observation frequently learns new approaches to teaching used by their teaching partner.
Many faculty who participate in Teaching Partners have been engaged with the program for several years. New participants are encouraged to attend the organizational meeting. This workshop is designed to prepare you for a classroom observation and to provide useful feedback based on the observation. Returning members of Teaching Partners are encouraged to attend this meeting and share their experiences with classroom peer observations.
Teaching Partners Program is open to all faculty at UWF. For more information about peer observation and the Teaching Partners Program, visit the following URL: http://uwf.edu/cutla/teaching_partners.cfm and complete the application form (near the bottom of this page).
Faculty who are interested in participating should complete the online application form on the program's web site no later than Friday, September 14, 2012.
