Dr. Anita Solarski

Biography:

Dr. Anita Solarski, an Instructor of Teacher Education, teaches courses in educational management and instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate level. She served as a Quality Matters Scholar and Instructor for Designing a Quality Online Course for four years and is now a Quality Matters Master Reviewer. This allows Solarski to chair review teams for external, national reviews.

Having also taught ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) courses, Solarski is a great resource for international students as they adjust to college-life at UWF. Her recent Emerge project, TEEL Pre-Service Teachers Mentoring International Students to Succeed in College, proved to be a high-impact practice. The project allowed domestic students to directly serve as a mentor to international students. Both domestic and international students benefited from the project as they learned more about languages, culture, and the struggles that both sides face in their collegiate studies.

Solarski is a member of the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Civic Engagement, Florida Association for Teacher Educators, and Emerald Coast TESOL. Since 2010, she has served as a board member and substitute teacher for Global Corner, a non-profit organization that brings a series of lessons to public schools about a different culture each year.

Degrees & Institutions:

Solarski received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from State University of New York at Plattsburgh. She went on to receive her master's degree in Child Care Administration from NOVA University. From there Solarski earned her doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Special Education from the University of West Florida.
