This project involves certified analyses of the levels of fecal bacterial contamination in bathing and recreational waters. These analyses are being carried out utilizing the analytical facilities of UWF's Wetlands Research Laboratory, with NELAP (National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program) certified protocols and performance standards. The resulting data enables the Okaloosa County Health Department to monitor environmental water quality, to alert the public of any potential health risks from bacterial contamination in regional water bodies, and to develop management plans for improving environmental and community health.
