Biography
Dr. Long is a dedicated and passionate Assistant Professor in Finance, with a strong educational background and a deep commitment to student success. He holds a Master's degree in Accounting and earned his Ph.D. in Finance, shaping young minds since 2014.
Dr. Long's teaching philosophy revolves around student-centered learning. He is deeply invested in his students' success, engagement, development, and overall wellness. He believes in equipping them with the latest knowledge in finance, integrating real-world certifications such as CPA/CFA into his teaching materials. Dr. Long is well-acquainted with industry leaders such as Bloomberg and Morgan Stanley. He actively organizes guest speaker sessions, shares industry news, and guides students in basic investments, providing them with practical insights into the financial world.
One of the highlights of Dr. Long's teaching journey has been organizing enriching experiences like the Wall Street tour, where he took students to renowned financial institutions such as Bloomberg and Hudson River Trading. These visits provided invaluable industry insights and allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of the financial sector. Additionally, trips to esteemed educational institutions like Columbia University have broadened students' horizons and inspired their future endeavors.
In the realm of research, Dr. Long's focus lies at the intersection of Corporate Finance and Behavioral Finance. He is proud to have a published paper in Empirical Economics and several working papers that will soon be submitted to peer-reviewed journals. His research allows him to stay at the forefront of financial knowledge, enriching his teaching methods with practical insights.
Before joining UWF, Dr. Long taught at Old Dominion University (his alma mater) and Hollins University. At both institutions, he was nominated for teaching awards and was a finalist for the FMA Innovation in Teaching Award for two years. He also held the distinction of being the highest-reviewed and scored professor on Rate My Professor.
Outside the academic sphere, Dr. Long has a keen interest in photography. He was a professional wedding photographer before embarking on his Ph.D. journey and cherishes the opportunity to capture the essence of moments. He extends this passion to his students by taking senior graduation photos for them each year.
