Located in the south-central area of the University of West Florida Pensacola campus, University Park is home to the Darrell Gooden Center, Sandy Sansing Sports Medicine Center, and PenAir Field.
Opened in April 2018 as University Park Center, the facility was renamed the Darrell Gooden Center following a gift from UWF alumnus Darrell Gooden and his wife, Debbie, in November 2018. The Darrell Gooden Center is a $7 million, 32,700-square-foot facility, located adjacent to PenAir Field.
The first floor houses additional space for UWF Intercollegiate Athletics including a new, state-of-the-art weight room and a football locker room with 115 custom player lockers and laundry facilities.
On the second floor, office space for UWF’s Usha Kundu, MD College of Health and Florida State University College of Medicine’s Pensacola Regional Campus provide a location for students and community partners to access both colleges’ leadership. A shared multipurpose room is utilized for medicine classes for students and continuing education courses for local physicians.
In January 2022, UWF announced a gift commitment of more than $600,000 from Sandy Sansing to support the Sandy Sansing Need-Based Student-Athlete Scholarship and for the expansion of the Darrell Gooden Center to include a new Sports Medicine Center. With this gift, the new Sports Medicine Center will be named in his honor. UWF hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Sandy Sansing Sports Medicine Center on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.
On Thursday, November 7, 2024, UWF celebrated the grand opening of the Sandy Sansing Sports Medicine Center at the Darrell Gooden Center, a $6 million state-of-the-art facility dedicated to enhancing the quality of care for UWF student-athletes. Home of UWF football, PenAir Field marked the first phase of University Park and was completed in February 2016. A $1 million gift from Pen Air Federal Credit Union supported the field’s creation and allowed UWF to further strengthen ties in the community. The 120-yard state-of-the-art surface serves as the primary practice facility for the UWF football program.
