Opportunity Happens Here
Growing up in Gulf Breeze, I always knew how important UWF was to the community, but it wasn’t until later that I truly realized the opportunity the University provides to students, staff and faculty. Out of high school, I went to play volleyball at Flagler College and pursued my bachelor’s degree in sports management. After a few years away, I began searching for something to bring me back home, and I found it in the special opportunities that UWF has to offer. At the time, UWF was offering a position as an Athletics Creative Social Media Senior Coordinator, and when this opportunity came to my attention, I knew it was exactly what I wanted. Working for UWF has given me the opportunity to be closer to my family, allowed me to pursue my master’s degree and create content that showcases the excellence of our student-athletes, coaches and staff.
In my role, I oversee and help run all social media accounts tied to UWF Athletics. I work closely with the University Marketing and Communications team to create a brand vision for the year, and I create game day graphics, score graphics and game promotional items for our social channels that align with this vision day-to-day. My boss, Ted Johnson, has been an incredible mentor and leader within our Athletic Communications office. He creates a fun and welcoming environment that allows for growth and development, while also trusting our own responsible nature. He has allowed me to flourish, backing my decisions and creative risks.
I feel so incredibly lucky to be in the position I am in now and achieve what I have at this age. Stepping into this role was intimidating, but easily the most rewarding thing I have ever done. Showing other women and girls that this field is open with opportunities for us to take charge is not something I take lightly, and I feel extremely blessed to do that. This job requires a lot of work, but when you're at a place like this, the work becomes a great joy in your life. UWF provides so much opportunity for growth, learning and professional development, and that opportunity has been a dream come true for me.
