Joy Happens Here

After meeting the incredible music faculty at the 2022 All State Florida Music Education Association Conference, I was invited to spend the day as an Argo in the music program and join a UWF Singers rehearsal during my audition day. Across UWF, I was welcomed with open arms and joyful hearts. From that point on, I knew I was destined to be an Argo. Even during hardships, I have seen time and time again the joy and connection present here uplift everyone, including me!

The word “joy” has followed me through pivotal points during my time here at UWF. In my sophomore year, the UWF Singers fall concert was titled "Filled With Joy." With over a year of preparation, we pushed our capabilities as musicians into overdrive. Dr. Peter Steenblik, associate professor and director of choral activities, taught me to be assertive in the classroom, have a thirst for knowledge, and always pursue kindness and joy in order to “do good works.”

Through the support of the music faculty, I have had opportunities to grow as a vocalist and perform on global stages, from the Pensacola Opera to off Broadway in New York and even all the way in Ireland. I’ve created lasting connections here at UWF, with professors teaching me how to get the best out of every rehearsal and the importance of every word I say or sing. Performing large master works and connecting emotionally with UWF audiences brings a joy to my heart that can never be fully expressed with words.
