Brian K. Miller | University of West Florida

After studying history at UWF, Brian K. Miller went on to earn a law degree from George Mason University. As the director of legal and public affairs at the Center for Individual Rights in Washington, D.C., he writes regularly on law and current events. Miller was recently named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in law policy for the class of 2018.

How did your studies at UWF shape your career?

I had many great professors and classes at UWF. Many people get rid of their school books as soon as the semester is over, but I still have quite a few books from UWF classes that I reference. Additionally, my involvement with SGA was a great experience in political advocacy. I learned a lot there and made some lasting friendships.

What does it mean to you to be honored by Forbes as part of the 30 Under 30?

I'm incredibly humbled by it. To be honest, I'm not sure I belong on the list, but I'm grateful for the recognition and the validation that my work matters and makes a difference.

What do you feel is most important about your work at the Center for Individual Rights?

First Amendment law has been my passion since I was in law school. It really gets me out of bed in the morning. I'm lucky that at CIR I get to work on issues and cases that I care about and make a difference nationally.
