Raku Ceramics with the UWF Department of Art & Design

June 1, 2026

Camp Description

Designed for high school students ready for a more advanced and dramatic ceramics experience, this camp introduces Raku firing, an exciting process known for its crackle glazes, metallic surfaces, and unpredictable results. Students will create ceramic works specifically designed for Raku firing and learn about clay bodies, glaze chemistry, and thermal shock. On the fifth day, students will participate in a live Raku firing, removing pieces from the kiln while hot and witnessing rapid transformations caused by fire, smoke, and reduction. This camp emphasizes experimentation, risk-taking, and material awareness, offering students a powerful introduction to ceramics as both craft and performance.

Registration Opens March 4
