Burials, Bones, and Beyond: Exploring Forensic Anthropology

June 10, 2024

Camp Description

Do you watch crime shows and think you could lead the investigation? Can you solve the crime? Here is your chance! Discover the field of forensic anthropology by applying anthropological methods in realistic mock crime-scene scenarios. Get hands-on interaction with replica human bones to learn about bones in the human body and how to differentiate them from non-human bones. Work with actual forensic practitioners and tools of the trade to learn techniques of crime scene search and recovery. At the end of the week, you will conduct full recoveries of mock crime scenes including photographing and excavating replica human remains while keeping a high scientific standard. You'll even transfer the ‘evidence’ to mock representatives of medicolegal and law-enforcement agencies.

This challenging, real-world anthropology experience will hone your critical thinking and observational skills, promote leadership, cultivate relationships and connect you with UWF students, staff and faculty, all while helping you investigate the fields of anthropology, archeology and forensic science as a career.
