UKCOH Students Participate in Interdepartmental Training Simulation
In October 2024, students from the Department of Movement Sciences and Health's Athletic Training Program collaborated with future nurses from the School of Nursing in an engaging interdisciplinary simulation exercise. This hands-on experience allowed participants to apply their knowledge and skills to realistic scenarios.
During the simulation, a group of students created a party atmosphere where one individual lost consciousness and became unresponsive. The athletic training team quickly sprang into action, triaging the patient to assess the situation and determine the best immediate response. After completing their evaluation, they carefully secured the patient on a medical backboard and transported him to the nursing simulation lab, designed to mimic an Emergency Department.
Once in the lab, the athletic training students provided crucial triage details and contextual information about the patient's condition to the nursing team. After sharing this important information, they stepped back, allowing the nurses to take over and work to save the simulated patient’s life. This collaborative exercise highlighted the importance of teamwork in emergency care and enhanced the practical skills of all involved.
