Interprofessional education is the important practice of encouraging collaborative education and experience across multiple areas of expertise within health education. At the Center for Interprofessional Education and Practice, students in nursing, respiratory therapy, athletic training, medical laboratory science, mental health, and others study together and learn from one another's area of expertise, resulting in a stronger health workforce with improved overall patient care.
Mission
The mission of the Center for Interprofessional Education and Practice is to create and facilitate interprofessional practice and collaborative experiences in healthcare between various disciplines across UWF, the Gulf Coast region, and beyond.
Vision
The vision of the Center for Interprofessional Education and Practice is to be the nexus for interprofessional learning and practice in the Gulf Coast Region and influence patient care through connection, collaboration, and education leading to individual and community health and wellbeing.
UKCOH Students Participate in Interprofessional Training Simulation
In October 2024, students from the Department of Movement Sciences and Health's Athletic Training Program collaborated with future nurses from the School of Nursing in an engaging interdisciplinary simulation exercise. This hands-on experience allowed participants to apply their knowledge and skills to realistic scenarios.
Get Involved
The Center for Interprofessional Education and Practice is a component of the greater Usha Kundu, MD College of Health, but we are delighted to extend our vision and research outside of the college scope. We seek to provide educational opportunities for not only the departments within our home college, but to biomedical students and other health-related professions at the University of West Florida. Community partners and healthcare professionals are also encouraged to get involved, whether to learn more about other health professions, offer your experience and knowledge to current students as a mentor, or to network and connect with other healthcare professionals in the greater Pensacola community.
