CSAA Experiential Learning

Four students walking along a path

A quality academic program is enhanced by the opportunity for pre-professional work experience. A number of students in the CSAA program have the opportunity for significant and meaningful work responsibilities that will translate directly into powerful resumes.

Graduate Assistantships

Various student service areas of the University of West Florida offer several compensated graduate assistantships. Please note that a condition of employment is enrollment and good standing within the College Student Affairs Administration Program or other appropriate UWF masters program.

Students have held GA positions in the following units:

  • Housing and Residence Life
  • Alumni Relations
  • Career Development and Community Engagement
  • Tutoring and Learning Resources
  • International Affairs
  • Fraternity and Sorority Life
  • Recreation and Wellness
  • Dean of Students
  • Student Engagement

Please note that listed GA hosts are meant to serve as examples of possible positions. Availability varies based on a number of factors, and there is no guarantee of securing a specific position.

Internships

Each student in the program is required to take two internships, each 3 credit hours. Students are expected to identify an appropriate college or university department or program that they have an interest in learning more about through experiential learning. The student must identify an acceptable site supervisor in that department or program and work with that person to construct the learning outcomes they wish to acquire through the experience. Students are expected to spend up to 150 hours in that area over the semester. In addition to the site work, students also have assignments due to the internship faculty throughout the semester including required paperwork, reflective journaling, and a visual essay of their internship site and experience. Students are also encouraged to consider internship programs hosted by national organizations such as National Orientation Directors Association (NODA) and Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I).

Some on-campus internship opportunities include:

  • Admissions and Orientation
  • Athletics / Game Operations
  • Career Development and Community Engagement
  • Equity and Diversity
  • Financial Aid
  • Housing and Residence Life
  • Kugelman Honors Program
  • Student Accessibility Resources
  • Student Involvement
  • Recreation and Wellness
  • Tutoring and Learning Resources

Please note that listed internship opportunities are meant to serve as examples of possible positions. Availability varies based on a number of factors, and there is no guarantee of securing a specific position.
