UWF WINS REGIONAL PROGRAMMING CONTEST
The Angry Pointers, a team of UWF computer science students, placed first in the 2012 ACM Southeast Regional Intercollegiate Programming Contact on November 10, 2012. Team members Breanna Garrett, Chris Terry, and Joel Willoughby ranked 31 out of 106 teams across the entire region. A total of four teams from UWF participated in this year's contest, three receiving honorable mention.
The competition is conducted on the same day and time at three sites including Georgia Tech, University of West Florida, and Florida Tech. Fourteen universities from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and South Carolina participated in the competition.
Teams of three contestants work on one computer to solve as many problems as possible over an arduous five hour period. Judges take into consideration the number of problems each team solves, how many attempts each one submits, and the amount of time taken to provide a correct solution, in order to determine a team's overall ranking.
This was UWF's fourth year to compete and the second year to serve as a host site. To learn more about the competition, visit: uwf.edu/computerscience/SER2012.
