UWF degree and year of graduation:
BS Computer Science, ’07
As you look back at your days at UWF, describe your best memory.
My best memories involve my major-related classes. They made college fun since I was doing something that I liked and was able to excel in them.
While you were at UWF, what did you think was its most outstanding and/or unique quality?
UWF’s small class sizes and constant one-on-one attention is next to none. This was especially helpful during my junior and senior years when being able to easily read the whiteboard and to clearly hear the professor is a must. I also enjoyed how the professors interacted with the classes by having open discussions and debates.
As you reflect, did your education at UWF have an impact on where you are today?
It most definitely has. I use my knowledge I learned at UWF on a day-to-day basis. While researching work-related issues, I have referred back to my old coursework in search of a solution. I have often found that many of the programming assignments I completed at UWF were very similar to real-world issues I encounter at work.
Describe what you do/did professionally including the type of company you work for.
I work for a government communications contractor in Central Florida. I currently work on an embedded mobile ad hoc radio system. It is a real-time waveform running a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) scheduling algorithm while providing Ethernet and Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) services to the user. It is written entirely in the C programming language.
What advice would you give students today who were looking at studying one of the disciplines in the School of Science and Engineering
Learn as much as possible about your major and start early! UWF is a great stepping stone to the career of your dreams, but your success is directly proportional to the amount of personal effort you put in to it.
Share one thing about yourself that would give others insight into your interests, hobbies, etc.
In my free time, my hobbies include CrossFit, running, disc golf, drag racing, fishing, photography and working on my Web site. When I get a chance to travel, I mountain bike, hike, hunt and scuba dive.
