To make sure that the internet connection remains active in your room, you will need to take the proper precautions to protect your computer. If your computer doesn't have the latest Windows updates or is badly infected with a virus, it may result in your port being disabled.
Step 1 - Windows Update
Visit Windows Update and
follow the instructions provided by Microsoft to install the
latest patches for Windows.
Click the link below to install the free McAfee Virus protection. It will be necessary to remove any existing virus protection programs on your computer such as Norton or another version of McAfee. Links to their removal tools and instructions on how to use them can be found below.
Step 3 - Watch What You Click
It is important that you watch what you click as you surf the web. If something looks suspicious, close the window. Periodically ITS will send email alerts letting you know about the latest scams and phishing attempts or you can visit here for more tips. If your computer does get infected with something you downloaded and you want it removed, you can bring it by our office.
