As many students go off to college, much of the attention is focused on them and their transition. However, we know that you go through a transition as well. This is why we created our family orientation.
Family orientation is two days and runs consecutively with student orientation. FTIC students attending an on-campus, two-day orientation session will stay in a residence hall room on campus with a roommate. Students are not permitted to stay in locations off campus during orientation. The cost for this overnight stay is included in the orientation registration charge. Parents and families are responsible for their own accommodations. Please visit our website at uwf.edu/orientation/planning/lodging for a listing of hotels and motels in the Pensacola area.
During family orientation, you will learn a great deal about the university, the services that are offered, and the academic rigor that will be required of your student. We hope that by the time you leave orientation, you are armed with the information you need to help your student. We realize that you will be the first one your student contacts when there are questions or concerns. We want to make sure you have the appropriate information to point them in the right direction. For more information, please view the presentations from the 2011 Family Orientation.
For our families with a transfer student, this is an old habit. You have already had a taste of what college life is like and you know what to expect. However, we know that you may have questions as well.
When your child registers for orientation, there is a place on the registration form to put down the name of guests who wish to attend. It is important that guests are registered, so we can plan accordingly.
We will have a packet of information, your nametag and meals ready when you arrive. Check-in for parents and families is at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts.
