The firm of Alexander Haas conducted the Vice Admiral John H. Fetterman State of Florida Maritime Museum and Research Center Mid-Campaign Assessment Study (pdf). After review of the study, the Board of Trustees, on Friday, March 25, 2011, voted to adopt for the mutual benefit of the University of West Florida and the Vice Admiral John H. Fetterman State of Florida Maritime Museum, the following action:
"The UWF Board of Trustees takes action on this report's recommendation that the project is no longer viable for UWF and shall be removed from the UWF Facilities Capital Improvement Plan and the Courtelis Matching Program."
Further, the Board of Trustees advised UWF Advancement and Foundation staff to follow all regulatory procedures and notify donors of this action. Per State of Florida regulations, it is within your rights as a donor to request full refund of your donation plus accumulated interest or redirect these funds, all or in part, to other areas of support within the University. Donors will be receiving a letter indicating their museum gift and accrued interest. There will be three items included in this correspondence that are essential to complete your transaction:
Before completing the W-9 Form and the refund/redirect option on the Donation Action Request Form, you may wish to contact your tax advisor and review related IRS publications listed on the explanation and information sheet. Note that under Florida law (Statute 1013.79), the University is required to remit the gift and, therefore, cannot legally transfer funds (gifts) directly to another entity, such as another 501(c)3.
