1. Break cycles of poverty.  One out of every fourteen students at UWF lives near or below the poverty level.  Many of our students are the first in their family to pursue a college degree.  Your gift to UWF helps students of all backgrounds access higher education.
2. Open doors of opportunity.  UWF students dream of becoming engineers, lawyers, entrepreneurs, teachers, nurses and more.  Gifts to scholarships and programs are an investment in those dreams and in the future of the communities in which they will live and work.
3. Alumni giving can help UWF attract major gifts.  Foundations and corporations sometimes consider the percent of alumni who participate in giving to be an indication of merit.  Your gift can inspire others to give.
4. Increase the value of your degree.  When national rankings are calculated by authorities such as the Princeton Review, alumni giving is key factor.  As a graduate of UWF, your gift helps increase UWF's rankings and reputation, thereby increasing the value of your degree.
5. It doesn’t take much!  Because rankings are influenced by the percent of alumni who give (not the dollars given), your gift will have a very powerful impact, no matter the amount.  No gift is too small to make a difference!
6. Help fuel the economy! UWF has $1.47 billion of economic impact to Florida; for every dollar of state support received, UWF returns $14.22 to the state economy. Your gifts help maintain and expand that impact.
7. It’s a worthy tradition.  The history of educational philanthropy in the United States can be traced back to medieval universities in twelfth-century Europe such as Paris, Oxford, and Cambridge.  Because education is critical to a successful society, it’s important that today’s alumni carry on this important tradition.
8. Return the favor.  As a graduate of UWF, you have benefitted from past gifts to the university.  You see, tuition has never covered more than 45% of the cost of education at UWF.  Annual fund gifts have always helped underwrite expenses, so even alumni who paid full tuition benefitted from gifts to departments and programs on campus. 
9. Help keep tuition as low as possible.  Even after recent increases, tuition at UWF is far below the national average of public universities.  That’s due, in part, to gifts from alumni.
10.
