
Health, Leisure and Exercise Science (HLES) is home to six programs that focus on the practical and scientific practice and understanding of the health, leisure, and exercise science domain. Our programs include Athletic Training, Community Health Education, Exercise Science, Hospitality, Recreation, and Resort Management (HRRM), Physical Education Teacher Education, and Sport Management. The HLES department recently moved into a new facility which provides state-of-the-art laboratories for exercise science, motor development, and athletic training along with a 10,000 square foot fitness room, indoor track, three basketball courts, Sportime pedagogy gym and teaching gym, and new classrooms. Leisure Learning Society began in the Spring of 1996. We have approximately 1200 members in the local area. The program is a lifelong learning program for people 55+. The program offers between 50 and 65 classes, activities, and events Fall, Spring, and Summer Semester. Classes are held at the main campus, the downtown campus, and at various locations throughout the two county area. Lunch 'n' learn events take place monthly except in the summer. We have a great lunch, and a great program. It's all just the "JOY OF LEARNING." No tests, no books, no grades! Recreation and Sports Services provides a wide variety of recreational activities designed with the University community in mind. The program has six basic areas: Informal Recreation, Aquatics, Fitness/Wellness, Intramural Sports, Outdoor Adventure, and Sport Clubs. Participation in the six areas listed permits the individual to acquire and maintain muscular strength, coordination, and endurance; to become proficient in specific physical skills; to relieve stress; and to have fun.
