Our mission: Providing businesses the expertise and resources to succeed. The Florida Small Business Development Center at the University of West Florida - College of Business (Florida SBDC at UWF) delivers, through certified professionals, consulting, training and information to help businesses succeed and create a positive impact for the Florida economy, while providing value for our stakeholders.

  • Who - The Florida SBDC at UWF is part of a statewide service network of more than 40 centers that offer consulting and educational services to small business owners. We are based in the University of West Florida's College of Business.
  • What - Motivated entrepreneurs and emerging business owners have access to our team of experienced and credentialed business consultants and specialists to help accelerate business growth and expansion. Our consultants bring local businesses access to a network of state and national experts and resources needed to compete in today's global marketplace.
  • Why - When local area businesses thrive, our economy thrives. Everyone wins. Our role is to assist in Florida's economic development by helping entrepreneurs in every stage of the business life cycle. We help business owners in their sound decisions in a complex, ever-changing market.
  • When - Since 1976, Florida's SBDC Network has helped construct a statewide ecosystem to foster the spirit, support and success of hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs and innovators.
  • Where - We maintain full-service offices in Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach and Panama City, supporting the following counties: Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Bay, Gulf, Calhoun, Jackson, Washington and Holmes.
  • How - We are funded in part by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Defense Logistics Agency, State of Florida, and other private and public partners, with the University of West Florida serving as the Network's and our lead host institution and direct supporter. We utilize the expertise and resources of UWF, College of Business, and the Association of SBDC's on a local, regional and national level to best meet the needs of our clients.

State designated as Florida's Principal Provider of Business Assistance [288,001,Fla.Stat.].  The Florida SBDC at UWF is a member of the Florida SBDC Network, a statewide service network funded in part through cooperative agreements with the U.S. Small Business Administration, Defense Logistics Agency, State of Florida and other private and public partners; hosted by the University of West Florida; and nationally accredited by the Association of SBDCs.


Explore New Markets and Grow Your Business!

This series is designed specifically to assist existing business owners in expanding your business, with four specific areas of focus for potential growth: Marketing & branding your business, doing business with the government, accessing capital and leveraging financial statements, as well as international trade.

Friday June 22 9-10:30am - Financials for Expansion:  This workshop will teach you about the sources of funds used to grow and expand.  Learn how to quickly and easily check your financial performance to make sure you're ready to seek a loan.  You'll get tips to make sure your business has more money in the bank.

Friday June 22 10:30am-Noon - Exporting Basics for Small Business:  This workshop will lay the foundations needed to expand internationally.  It's not just big business who can find new markets for your products and services.  You will learn the terms and common practices that other companies are using to make Florida the 4th largest exporter in the country and see if you're a fit for one of our Export Marketing Plans.

Noon-12:30 - Lunch and Networking

Friday June 29 9-11am - Marketing & Branding Your Business:  In this workshop you will learn the importance of answering the question, "What's Your Why?" first in the marketing process.  You'll also find out what kinds of messages and stories capture the attention of your customers, moving them to action with content marketing, branding and social media.  This class will also help explain how customer experience, customer service, events and visibility opportunities in the community can be used to take your business to the next level.

Friday June 29 11:00am-Noon - Doing Business With the Government:  In this workshop you will learn how to do business with the government (federal, state and local) by learning how best to market your goods and/or services to government agencies and where to find the opportunities.

Noon-12:30 - Lunch and Networking

Small Business Night

Small Business Night at Blue Wahoos Stadium

The Florida SBDC at UWF and the Pensacola Blue Wahoos are teaming up again this year for Small Business Night at Blue Wahoos Stadium on Tuesday July 10.  It’s an opportunity for businesses ranging from one employee to 500 to network, exhibit, reward employees, thank customers or just socialize…all in one setting.

Individual Reserve Seating is available starting at the Group Price of $9 per seat. Your business could also bring your team together on one of the party decks, or network and enjoy the Fat Tuesday buffet with business partners for $21 per ticket.  

Show off your business as an exhibitor, and be featured on the stadium concourse for $250 (regularly $500 per night).  Your business will receive a Table and Chairs to exhibit your company materials. Marketing only please, selling is prohibited. Exhibiting Companies will be highlighted on the Video Board during the game and our On-Field MC, Camera Crew and Photographer will be making the rounds during the game to catch some of the activity.

- Throw out a ceremonial first pitch

- Participate in a Pre-Game Interview with the Wahoos On-Field MC

- Participate in a Radio Interview with the Wahoos Radio Announcer
