Job Shadowing and Finding a Mentor

Career Services offers a job shadowing program meant to assist students in learning more about their potential career fields. Job shadowing with a mentor is a great way for students to explore different careers, or identify a particular path within a specific industry for them. It also is a great opportunity to meet professionals in their field of interest to enhance a student's professional network. After attending a Backpacks 2 Briefcases orientation session, students will have access to the Mentor Search feature through their JasonQuest account. Students can then search for a mentor, who shares the student's major or career goals. The JasonQuest Mentor Database is made up of University of West Florida alumni and other area professionals who have agreed to allow students to contact them through email or phone. Mentors may agree to do informational interviews, email network with students, welcome students to job shadow, and speak to organizations. The University of West Florida (UWF) Student and Alumni Networking Group on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a professional networking site that offers people the opportunity to exchange knowledge, ideas, and opportunities with trusted contacts and group members. Career Services offers a professional networking group on LinkedIn to encourage students and alumni of the University of West Florida to network with one another. Join this group if you are a student who is interested in networking with alumni, or if you are an alumni who is interested in networking with current UWF students. Networking will give students and alumni the opportunity to discuss and learn from each other about career paths/ interests and possible job opportunities in their field.
