Exercise Science

The Exercise Science degree is designed for students interested in a career in the clinical or fitness industry or as preparation for graduate studies (including physical therapy, occupational therapy, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, medical school, biomedical research, and college level strength and conditioning coach.) The program culminates with a 360 hours capstone experience in a clinical or strength and conditioning setting.

The University of West Florida undergraduate Exercise Science program is endorsed by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) education recognition program (ERP) and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Exercises. The undergraduate Exercise Science program was awarded initial accreditation effective July 13, 2017 through July 31, 2022. 

The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredits the University of West Florida’s undergraduate Exercise Science Program, upon the recommendation of the committee for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES).  This curriculum covers the knowledge, skills, and abilities expected of an ACSM certified Exercise Physiologist.

Exercise Science Advisory Council

The University of West Florida’s undergraduate and graduate Exercise science programs are recognized by the Education Recognition Program (ERP), which aligns with the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s (NSCA) educational guidelines.

The need for professionals in the exercise science field is growing since it is becoming more and more apparent that "exercise is medicine".

Our program offers extensive hands-on training in physiology, anatomy and physiology, the biomechanics of movement, and clinical exercise testing and prescription using our state of the art laboratories. Our curriculum will help you begin to understand the ways in which exercise is not only tied to athletic performance but also physical and psychological health.

Through several classes and the senior-year internship you’ll be able to work with several populations, from top-level athletes to the elderly and patients at various cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation facilities, and influence their lives for the better.

‌Students completing the degree requirements in this field of study are prepared to sit for numerous professional certifications offered by professional organizations (American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association, American Council on Exercise, etc.).
