[Honors Summer Institute Student Testimonials graphic] [Cameron Killingsworth speaking] I did the Kugelman Honors Summer Institute the summer before my junior and senior years of high school and just fell in love with it. It’s a beautiful campus, and wonderful people, awesome professors. [Carli Carillo speaking] So, the summer institute, I made a whole bunch of friends, and I’m currently taking a class with one of them, and we hadn’t seen each other for like two years. And so, whenever we found out that we were in the same class, it was like, “Oh my gosh,” and so, I’ve kinda of made connections of like people that are interested in the same things or people that are wanting to read the same things and stuff like that. So it's nice to have another sense of community ‘cause like when you leave high school you don't really have that ‘cause everybody goes everywhere, and so it’s nice to see that there were people here that were like, “Oh my gosh I like that too, yes let's talk about it!” [Keith Floyd speaking] I felt that this was like a good experience to not only see UWF campus but to check and see if Honors was a thing personally meant for me. Not only does it show what Honors is capable of, but it also shows the UWF campus as a whole. Like they show like a whole tour, and also show student resources. We got to explore downtown Pensacola specifically for those areas where you can get the volunteer and internships. [Cameron Killingsworth speaking] The Summer Institute definitely gave me a peek into what Honors would be like that most of my peers did not receive. So some of these things that we're learning about like the degree requirements, I'd already kind of had an idea of what to expect coming into it, which was really helpful and made everything less scary for sure. [Keith Floyd speaking] It’s like a… it’s a pack of Honor students, right? We're just, we're just chilling, eating food, and playing games. Not only that... like that... that's like the free time right. [Carli Carillo speaking] Whenever I got to meet like Dr Evans and Jenny, and everybody, it was like I felt like they actually enjoyed talking to me and I wasn't just like a student or a kid. And, so that kind of made me want to get involved with Honors cause I felt like I wasn't just going to be like pushed to the side. Like I felt like they actually cared about what I said.
