Cybersecurity and Information Technology
The Department of Cybersecurity and Information Technology offers coursework towards undergraduate degrees using computer programming, database administration and security, and network infrastructure support.
The UWF Department of Cybersecurity and Information Technology is an academic department that is dedicated to providing students with the computing, technical, and project management skills required to become tomorrow's IT professionals, including Database Administrators, Information Security Specialists, System Analysts and Developers, Network Engineers/Managers and other positions.
What is the difference between information technology and computer science? Both disciplines are based on computing and programming skills. While computer scientists typically take more math and programming courses to prepare for graduate school, IT students train in applications of computing systems in a variety of domains such as healthcare, finance and banking, law, government, educational institutions, data analytics, network communications, and security.
National Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE-C)
The National Security Agency has designated the University of West Florida as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) and also a member of the Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE) Community.
UWF partners with Red Hat Academy and Cisco Network Academy
The University of West Florida partners with Red Hat Academy and Cisco Networking Academy allowing students to put theory and hands-on experience into practice. Red Hat Academy provides online certification training for Red Hat System Administration I and II through our CTS 4348 Linux System Administration course. Our new networking courses (CNT 3004 Introduction to Networks, CNT 3112 Routing and Switching, CNT 4701 Scaling Networks and CNT 4013 Connecting Networks) will leverage the materials and environments provided via the Cisco Networking Academy to prepare students for entry-level Cisco certification exams.
