Yuri Armstrong

1st Lieutenant, Squadron Medical Platoon Leader and Medical Operations Officer, United States Army

A magna cum laude graduate of UWF, Yuri Armstrong utilized UWF’s Emerald Coast location and online courses in order to complete his degree in criminal justice while serving active-duty in the U.S. Army. What does your job entail?

I am directly responsible for the training, morale and welfare of a Stryker reconnaissance squadron’s medical platoon, which consists of a squadron surgeon, a physician assistant, 12 non-commissioned officers and 22 enlisted medics. I plan, manage and coordinate all health service support operations, ground and air medical evacuations and medical readiness for the squadron. I also develop tactics, techniques and procedures for the platoon and squadron during multinational training exercises, NATO contingency missions and combat operations.

Where are you stationed and what are your future plans?

I’m in Vilseck, Germany. I plan to continue my military service and earn my master’s degree in criminal justice from UWF. I completed a study abroad class toward my master’s degree in Scotland in 2015, and look forward to continue when I am able.

What did you appreciate most about UWF?

I appreciated the commitment from all the professors who work tirelessly to ensure students are successful in their educational, professional and personal goals.
