Dr. Kathy Heineken


Dr. Kathy Heineken, an Instructor of Teacher Education, teaches courses in elementary, middle, and special education at the undergraduate level. She also supervises students as they gain field experience and prepare to enter the educational workforce.

Heineken joined UWF in 1996 teaching reading and literature courses. Over time, she has served many roles including Practicum Placement Coordinator, Director of Field Experiences, and Director of Advising for Teacher Education. Heineken is a member of the International Literacy Association, Florida Association of Florida Educators, National Education Association and the Florida Education Association. She takes part in professional and community services such as reading camps, tutoring, and volunteering at local elementary schools.

Heineken was also a part of the Escambia County School District (ECSD) and UWF Partnership Development Team in 2011. This partnership has grown into one of the strongest working relationships at the university. 

Degrees & Institutions:

Heineken received a bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Florida. She went on to earn two master's degrees in Curriculum and Instruction – one with a concentration in Elementary Education and the other with a concentration in Reading Education – both from the University of West Florida. Heineken then earned her doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Teaching and Learning from the University of West Florida.
