Process for Inclusion of General Education Courses

There are several reasons why a department might want to have one of its courses included in the General Education curriculum, and not least of them is the prestige and notoriety of representing the discipline to a large number of students who are starting their college careers at UWF. The process to have a course included in the General Education curriculum starts with the CCR process.

General Education Courses

General Education courses must include the appropriate  General Education Student Learning Outcomes for their discipline When submitting a course through the CCR process with the intention of having it included in the General Education curriculum, please be sure to select the appropriate distribution area that applies to your course and choose "Arts Social Sciences and Humanities Dean (CAD)" as a point of articulation.

Courses with General Education Attributes: Gordon Rule or Multiculturalism

Courses that have a General Education attribute (such as Gordon Rule or Multiculturalism) must also be reviewed by the General Education Committee. When submitting a course through the CCR process with the intention of having it included as a Gordon Rule course, please be sure to select "Writing" or "Math" (as appropriate) for Gordon Rule. Writing Gordon Rule courses should also include a sample syllabus that includes the appropriate Gordon Rule SLO and clearly highlights the role writing will play in the course. As with General Education courses, be sure to select "Arts Social Sciences and Humanities Dean (CAD)" as a point of articulation.

General Education Committee

CCRs for General Education courses as well as courses with the Gordon Rule or Multicultural attribute are reviewed by the General Education Committee. Please be aware that the Committee may request additional information, such as a sample course syllabus.
