Rick Scott, department chair and lecturer in communication, teaches public relations principles, media relations and crisis management.

Scott is an accredited public relations counselor who has served in a variety of command and staff assignments in the U.S. Army, culminating as a spokesperson for the Department of Defense and director of public affairs planning for the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

In his classes, Scott incorporates practical examples from his 11 years of experience in crisis management and media relations to reinforce the theoretical concepts students are reading in textbooks.

In addition to teaching, Scott has been recognized for his dedication to teaching and the public relations profession. He received UWF Distinguished Teaching Award for his commitment to excellence in teaching and learning in 2016 and 2005. He also received the Doris Fleischman Unsung Hero Award from the Florida Public Relations Association for consistently providing support and assistance to the association.

He has a bachelor's degree in criminology from Florida State University and a master's in journalism from the University of South Carolina.
