Department of Art
The Department of Art offers two baccalaureate programs, leading to either the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Art, or the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree. An Art minor is also available.
The Department of Art
The Department of Art offered its first classes on the same day that the University of West Florida opened its doors, September 25, 1967. Dr. John Carey, chair of the Art Department, recruited faculty from the best art programs across the country. Classes included only juniors, seniors, and graduate students until the Fall of 1983, when the University first admitted its freshmen. Today, the Department of Art is housed in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts (Building 82), along with the Departments of Music and Theatre. Dr. Barbara Larson currently serves as the department chair.
Welcome to the Department of Art!
We have a vibrant community of more than 200 students and a distinguished faculty passionate about teaching. Majors in the Art Department earn B.F.A.s in the studio arts, graphic design, or digital art and B.A.s in art history or studio art. Classes in museum studies and gallery practices are offered on a regular basis. ... Read more from Dr. Barbara Larson, Department of Art chair.
