The Kugelman Honors Summer Institute (KHSI) is a free one-week residential summer program for high school students who are rising juniors and seniors. Students will live together in Pace Hall on the University of West Florida's campus. Faculty, staff, student leaders, and community experts will engage high school students in meaningful discussions and high-impact experiences.

KHSI 2023: College Readiness participants will gain confidence in their ability to be successful in college and an understanding of the Kugelman Honors Program's values, benefits, and opportunities. Students will develop skills in interdisciplinary thinking, professional and productive communication, personal goal-setting, critical thinking, meaningful reflection, note-taking, project management, and much more!
What is the Kugelman Honors Summer Institute?
KHSI 2023: College Readiness is a free one-week residential program for 24 rising high school seniors from June 5 through June 9, 2023. The institute is intended for rising high school seniors who wish to learn more about what it means to be part of the Kugelman Honors Program and a Living Learning Community (LLC). Selected students will live together at the center of the Kugelman Honors Program's LLC in Pace Hall on the University of West Florida's campus. Students will engage in discussions and high-impact experiences with UWF Kugelman Honors faculty, staff, students, and community experts.
How much does it cost?
The Kugelman Honors Program provides the following to KHSI participants:
- Room and board
- Most meals and snacks
- Supplies for workshops and projects
Students are responsible for the following costs:
- Meals and snacks for two off-campus excursions
- Souvenirs, if desired
- Any other miscellaneous items
KHSI FEATURES
High-Impact Experiences
KHSI features high-impact (HIP) experiences similar to those completed by Kugelman Honors Program students. These HIP experiences include travel to historic downtown Pensacola and internship sites.
Honors Mentors
Participants will also be matched with an Honors Mentor. Honors Mentors will share their perspective on being Kugelman Honors Program students at UWF.
College Readiness
These future Argos will gain confidence in their ability to succeed in college and understand the benefits and opportunities of the Kugelman Honors Program. Participants receive priority consideration for admission to the Kugelman Honors Program.

KHSI 2023 Application Deadline
KHSI has 24 seats available for rising high school seniors. To apply, students must submit an application (linked below) by 5:00 PM on Friday, May 19, 2023. A waitlist will be available if capacity has been reached before the application deadline.

Parents and guardians must submit a Family Information Form (linked below) by 5:00 PM on Friday, May 19, 2023. Additional forms (Waiver, Assumption of Risk & Release of Liability Form, and a Field Trip Release Form) will be collected at Check-In.

Packing
Must Haves:
- Prescriptions
- Toiletries
- Bedding for a twin-size mattress or a sleeping bag
- Pillow
- Towels & washcloths
- Closed-toe shoes
- Clothing (even though it's summer in Florida, a light jacket or sweatshirt is recommended in case of indoor temperature variations)
- Pajamas
- Reusable water bottle
- Cash (enough for two meals and two snacks for outings)

KHSI: College Readiness is for 24 rising high school seniors from June 5 through June 9, 2023.
KHSI: Identity is for 24 rising high school juniors from July 17 through July 21, 2023.

Where is Pace Hall?
Pace Hall is located on The University of West Florida's main campus. We are located on a service road off Campus Drive, adjacent to Parking Lot T. Use our interactive digital map by searching for Building 930 or Pace Hall.
When is Check-Out at Pace Hall?
Parents and guardians check out students with the KHSI team at Pace Hall. Parents and guardians must present a valid ID.

Are there any special events for parents and guardians to attend?
Yes! Parents and guardians are invited to see students present their final projects. Please see below for more information.
