A common vocabulary has been created for the Web Presence Project and should be used when describing the elements contained in the template system. The sample page below was created from the template files. The common page element names are listed below.

Header: This section contains graphics intended to brand pages as part of UWF. The section includes the university logo, Apply Online icon, Argus icon and Search box. The header should not be altered and must appear on all university pages. Click here to view Header.
Department Header: This section is simply the name of your department. The department header provides standardization to every page of a Web site. Click here to view Department Header.
Navigation Bar: All essential navigation tools for a site are located in a single column on the left-hand side of each page. Results of usability tests indicated that this was more easily understood by users. Click here to view Navigation Bar.
Root Navigation: The root navigation represents an immovable anchor for users to the top-most level of a department’s Web site. Click here to view Root Navigation.
Secondary Navigation: This area provides quick access to sibling and child links of the current page. It gives users an intuitive sense of where they are and where they can go. This area is an optional way to organize a site; it is not required. Click here to view Secondary Navigation.
Collar: The collar is simply a container for breadcumbs, which show the path taken from the Web site root to the current page. Click here to view Collar.
Other Links: This area falls below the root and/or secondary navigation and is designed for any other links within a site or to another site that require top-level presence, but do not fall into a root navigation category. Use of this area is optional and is not required. Click here to view Other Links.
Content Area: This area provides the most flexibility for pages. Text, images and other content may be added to this area. Click here to view Content Area.
Related Links: This is a menu of links within a page’s content area. These links should relate to the specific content of the page that they fall on. Use of the Related Links menu is optional; it is not required. Click here to view Related Links.
Footer: The footer contains contact information for a department. It must appear on the bottom of every page of a site. The footer should be consistent per the template. Click here to view Footer.
