Baptist upsets UWF in championship

For the second consecutive season, Ouachita Baptist University
pinned a loss on the University of West Florida in the
Gulf South Conference Women's Tennis Championship match.
The 12th-ranked Tigers posted a 5-3 upset victory over
the fourth ranked Argonauts to claim their second consecutive
GSC Women's Tennis Championship. UWF falls to 23-5.
Ouachita Baptist won two of three doubles matches to begin
the championship. The first position doubles match featured
two of the top 12 doubles teams in the nation. The sixth-ranked
duo of Brenda Magnetti and Helena Besovic dominated the 12th-ranked
team of Eva Papastratides and Nicole Plikat 8-1. Sabrina
Benitez and Inga Ziemina followed with a hard-fought 8-6
triumph over Sabine Krawietz and Pilar Cortes. The Argos
tandum of Diana Olave and Giulianna Oblitas won UWF’s
only doubles match by default.
Ouachita Baptist won three singles matches to clinch the
victory, including two victories in the top two singles positions.
Fifth-ranked Besovic topped Krawietz, 6-4, 7-5 while 34th-ranked
Magnetti upset 18th-ranked Plikat, 6-3, 6-2. UWF’s
Cortes easily won 6-0, 6-0 over Casey Danner, and Miranda
Dutra won by default. Ouachita Baptist also picked up a victory
from Benitez, who recorded a 6-0, 6-4 triumph over Olave.
