The Veterans Services Office (VSO) no longer provides a written
booklet of guidelines and procedures for VA students. VA
students are responsible for the information provided by the VSO and
the information in the UWF Catalog. Additional information for VA
students is also published on this VSO web site or e-mail
veterans@uwf.edu.
Please contact the VSO at (850) 474-2262 with any
questions. It is the student's responsibility to notify
the UWF Veterans Services Office of the following:
- Enrollment Certification
After registering, eligible students may visit the UWF Veterans Services
Office to complete necessary paperwork. In most cases, the earlier a student
registers, provides a copy of the registration fee schedule, and completes
other information, the earlier certification paperwork can be forwarded
to the DVA.
VA students must initiate enrollment certification at the beginning of each
semester. Students currently enrolled can complete a VA Enrollment Certification
online through Argus under the "My Info" tab.
- Program Description Sheet (PDS)
A PROGRAM DESCRIPTION SHEET (PDS) (pdf) is no
longer required if the student has a SASS audit. Students without a SASS
audit must have a PDS that lists all courses that are required to complete
the student's specific degree plan. The signed PDS must be on file in the
UWF Veterans Services Office before the end of the student's first semester
at UWF. Considerable care should be taken in the development of this plan
since the DVA will consider only courses listed on the PDS.
- Changes to Schedule
Any changes to the students schedule (additions, drops, withdrawals, or
other interruptions) not processed on-line through Argus on the "My
Info" tab must be reported in writing within one week to the UWF Veterans
Services Office.
- Failure to Attend Class
Routine class attendance is required for students receiving DVA benefits.
If a student is unable to attend class for an extended period of time,
he/she
must notify the instructor and the UWF Veterans Services Office.
- Change of Major
VA students need to visit the VSO anytime they make a major change.
- Change of Address
Two separate change of address forms must be filed, one with the DVA and
the other with the University. Both forms are available at the UWF Veterans
Services Office.
Students may also change their UWF address on-line through Argus
under the "My Info" tab.
DVA notification may be done by e-mailing the DVA at
"Ask
a Question and Find an Answer" or calling (888) 442-4554. Expeditious
notification will speed payment of benefits. Chapter 30, 1606 may change
their address via W.A.V.E.
- Student Academic Support System (SASS)
VA will only pay benefits for classes required for graduation or for
completion of an approved VA certificate program. Students who do not have
a SASS audit will need a signed program description sheet. Required courses
must be reflected in your SASS before they can be certified for VA benefits.
Substitutions to the SASS audit must be made prior to VA certification.
To prevent delays in a certification, it is a student's responsibility to
ensure that all classes are required.
- Tuition deferment
VA students can receive a tuition deferment once each academic year.
The deferment is used to defray the cost of tuition for 60 days from the
fee payment date. Extensions may granted for first semester students on
an individual basis and under strict guidelines. The VA Deferment is a promissory
note requiring students to pay fees and tuition on or before the deferment
due date. If the student withdraws from classes or is denied VA benefits,
he/she is still responsible for the fees and tuition. Fees and tuition must
be paid within ten working days of notification to avoid collection action.
- Tuition Deferment Promissory Note
A deferment request is included on the VA Enrollment Certification Form
(ECF). Once processed, the VSO will notify the cashier’s office and
the cashier's office will update the fee payment date within 14 working
days.
- Tuition Deferment Promissory Note Extensions are available if a
student has not received VA Educational benefits prior to the deferment
due date. Students may request an extension online through their ARGUS account
or in person at the VSO. Extensions will be processed within two working days.
- Dual Degrees (Major and Minors)
Students requesting dual majors requires approval by the State Approving
Agency before earning 90 hours toward a baccalaureate program. For graduate
students, the request must be made during the student’s second semester
of enrollment. Visit the UWF Veterans Services Office for additional information.
- Transient Students
Transient student must complete the Transient Student Forms to verify
courses are required to complete degree plan.
