that may be adjusted by the number of dependents

32: Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)
• Eligibility for veterans who first entered the military between January
1, 1977 and June 30, 1985
• Contributions matched on a 2 to 1 basis by the U.S. Government
• Up to 36 months of education benefits, dependent upon the number of
monthly contributions
• Benefits payable for 10 years following release from active duty
• Unused contributed portion after the 10-year period is automatically
refunded
CHAPTER 33: Post 9/11 GI Bill
• VA certificate of eligibility or proof of application
• Benefits pay a prorated tuition as approved by DOD
• Benefits may be transferred to spouse or dependent child if service
member has 6 yrs of service and agrees to serve for additional 4 years
• Veterans who are on active duty August 1, 2009 may certify training
that begin on or after that date
• Benefits include tuition paid directly to school, books and supplies
up to $1,000 per year divided by academic term, monthly stipend based on DOD's
BAH rate for E-5 with dependents
• Up to 36 months of education benefits, dependent upon the number of
monthly contributions
• Benefits payable for 15 years following release from active duty

CHAPTER
34: Vietnam Era GI Bill
• Program discontinued
• Vietnam Era veterans may still receive benefits under Chapter 30-Category
II of the MGIB
CHAPTER
35: Dependents Educational Assistance
• Educational benefits for spouse and children of veterans who are permanently
and totally disabled or died as a result of a service-connected disability
• Spouse and children of POW's and MIA's may also be eligible
• No additional adjustments in benefits for dependents
• Up to 45 months of education benefits
• A spouse has 10 years from date of eligibility to complete education
• Children have 8 years from the date of eligibility to complete education
(eligibility through age 31)
CHAPTER
1606: Selected Reserve
• Selected reserve obligation of 6 years
• National Call to Service (NCS)
• Officer - must serve 6 years in addition to current obligation
• Enlisted - must complete initial active duty training and maintain
selected reserve status in a drill unit in good standing
• Up to 36 months of education benefits
• Benefits payable for 14 years from date of basic eligibility

• Program offers certain reservists who were activated for at least
90 days after September 11, 2001 educational benefits or an increase in benefits
• No fixed delimiting date as long as reservist is actively drilling
• Benefits payable for10 years from date of separation for disability

Assistance Test Program (Section 901 of Public Law 96-342)
• Benefits are available to individuals who entered on active duty after
September 30, 1980, and before October 1, 1981 (or before October 1, 1982,
if entry was under a delayed enlistment contract signed between September
30, 1980, and October 1, 1981)
