Kristina Behan, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, was awarded a $5,000 grant from the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences for her project titled "Investigation of the accuracy of point-of-care testing for A1c in patients with Sickle Cell Trait." *****
Theresa Byrd, Carol Rafalski and James Wilkie, Research and Sponsored Programs, have successfully obtained the designation of Certified Research Administrator (CRA). This distinguished national certification is administered by the Research Administrators Certification Council's and attests that the individuals have demonstrated a high-level of knowledge necessary for success as a professional research or sponsored programs administrator. *****
Rick Harper, Haas Center for Business Research and Economic Development, was awarded $36,500 from WorkNet Pinellas, Inc. to perform a gap analysis and feasibility study for the Centers of Excellence Career-Technical High Schools for Pinellas County. The Haas Center will identify specific occupations that have high-growth potential within targeted and emerging industry sectors, determine gaps in labor supply and demand in high-growth potential occupations, identify industry recognized certificates that can reasonably be attained by students within the K-12 system and design and administer surveys to employers in order to measure and assess their needs for employee skill sets. *****
Joe Lepo, Center for Environmental Diagnostics and Bioremediation, was awarded $25,014 as one-third of a total project award of $75,040 for a project titled "Microbial Source Tracking (MST) and its Application to the Northern Gulf of Mexico" sponsored by the Gulf of Mexico Cooperative Institute of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. This project will involve scientists and institutions from Florida and Mississippi in a collaborative research effort. MST has been developed and tested over the past decade, showing promise for discriminating between animal and human fecal pollution sources. One MST method, chosen from a suite of three, will be field-tested for widespread geographic applicability and accuracy in all waters, and round-robin tested among laboratories. *****
Julie Ann Williams, Management/Management Information Systems, had the following two journal articles published. "Matching daily healthcare provider capacity to demand in advanced access scheduling systems" by Xiuli Qu, Ronald Rardin, Julie Ann Williams and Deanna Willis was published in the "European Journal of Operational Research." "Model-Based Analysis of Capacity and Service Fees for Electronics Recyclers" by Qin Lu, Julie Ann Williams, Marc Posner, Winston Bonawi-tan and Xiuli Qu was published in the "Journal of Manufacturing Systems."
