William Carper, management and management information systems, attended the 36th Annual Meetings of the Southeast Decision Sciences Institute in Wilmington, N.C. He served as the organization's president and chaired a workshop session on tenure and promotion issues. As president, Carper also serves as an officer of the Decision Sciences Institute and a member of its Regional Activities Committee. He recently completed a two-year term on the Decision Sciences Institute board of directors.

Tami Cyr, head coach of the UWF softball team, celebrated her 600th win as the team's coach when West Florida beat North Alabama during a game held March 29. Cyr has totaled the most career wins (727) and wins at one school (600) in Gulf South Conference softball history.

Marty Hornyak, management and management information systems, received the "Outstanding Service Award" for 2006 from the American Society of Business and Behavioral Sciences at the society's national conference in February in Las Vegas, N.V. He was honored for his years of service as a dual track chair and reviewer. Hornyak, along with Wynn Teasley, management and management information systems, presented two papers at the conference. "Management Education: An Exploratory Investigation of Storm Stress" and "Panhandle Paradise Lost -- How to Regain It: A Management Simulation" summarize and analyze the impact of Hurricanes Ivan and Dennis on education, students, faculty and approaches for classroom use. *****
Scott Keller, marketing and economics, recently had his manuscript, "Bridging the Gap Between Logistics and Marketing: Facilitating Collaborative Behavior" accepted for publication in the leading logistics journal, "Journal of Business Logistics." Keller also had a book chapter titled "Chapter 16: Critical Support of Supply Chain Logistics Personnel" accepted for publication by Sage Publications in the "Handbook of Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management."

Frank Sansone, social work, has been elected to the board of the National Association of Community Organizations and Social Administration. He will represent the Southern Region on the board for 2006-2009. The association is a national social work organization whose members work or teach in the fields of community organizing, community development, planning, social policy, administration and research and program evaluation.

Kimberly Sessions-Spear, Office of the President, along with Gregory Brown, Santa Rosa County property appraiser, recently had their article, "Planning for Disaster and Recovery: One Hurricane-battered County Shares the Successes and Shortcomings of its Pre-storm Disaster Plan," published in the "International Association of Assessing Officers, Fair and Equitable Magazine," which is distributed to 20 countries and nearly 8,000 members worldwide.

Reginald Shepherd, English, has recent poems out or forthcoming in "The American Poetry Review," "Denver Quarterly," "Ploughshares" and "The Yale Review." He also read some of his work at the University of Tampa on March 17. *****
Julie Ann Stuart Williams, management and management information systems, along with Xiuli Qu of Purdue University and Edward Grant of University of British Columbia had their article, "Viable Plastics Recycling From End-of-Life Electronics," published in "IEEE Transactions on Electronics Packaging Manufacturing." Their research was supported by a grant through the National Science Foundation. *****
Susan Walch, psychology, has accepted an appointment by the American Psychological Association to the William A. Bailey Health and Behavior Congressional Fellowship for 2006-2007. Appointment is a prestigious honor, with only six fellows from across the country appointed each year. She will work as a special legislative assistant for a member of Congress or for a congressional committee. Her activities will involve conducting legislative or oversight work, assisting in congressional hearings and debates and preparing briefs and writing speeches, while working on public policy issues related to her area of expertise in HIV/AIDS and other health-focused issues.
