Agricultural runoff impacts on total maximum daily loads and water quality

During the summer of 2002 teachers engaged in a number of projects related to the grant activities.  Because there wasn't much rain during the months of June and July most of their research was related to water sampling in the Escambia River and to taking samples of grass at the 4H plot.  At the 4H site teachers mowed each plot, then weighed each bag of grass from the plots and took small samples in plastic bags that were later dried and analysed. The following data  characterizes the dry weight yield per acre for each treatment plot over time.

With the help of Jan Macauley teachers learned to used a variety of sophisticated instruments to do analysis of nitrates, ammonia, and phosphates in the various water samples. Teachers enjoyed their days on the Escambia River collecting samples and the follow up analysis of water in the Wetlands Laboratory.
