“Stay Safe, Stay Together” Safety Campaign Overview

UWF is a heavily wooded campus because of its large size and commitment to preserving nature. Designed to raise awareness of on-campus security issues, the “Stay Safe, Stay Together” campaign was launched in 2006 as a successor to the successful “Just 2 It” safety campaign. “Stay Safe, Stay Together” targets complacency toward security issues and reminds the campus community that there is safety in numbers.

This campaign reminds students that they should never walk alone on campus, especially at night. If students walk to parking lots or to classes, go jogging or participate in other activities, “Stay Safe, Stay Together” suggests that they walk with a friend or an escort. A simple message, the campaign reinforces one of the university’s primary missions to provide a secure and safe environment for all campus community members.

Escort Service

Complementing the safety campaign is the University Police Department ’s 24-hour escort service, which offers an additional level of safety to those living and working on campus. The service is free and available to anyone on campus who calls the police department and requests an escort. To request an escort to another building, your car or to your residence hall, dial 474-2415. Escorts will identify themselves when meeting you by presenting a business card and photo identification.

Blue Lights

Emergency Blue Lights are located in all parking lots and placed throughout the walkway areas on campus. When activated in case of an emergency, the blue lights give you direct contact with the UWF Police Communications Center. To operate the blue light, open the box on the pole and press the red button on the inside. You will then be in immediate contact with the dispatcher. Each time a blue light is activated, an officer will be sent to investigate. If you do not have time to open the box and push the button, strike the side of the pole and this will activate the tamper alarm. The alarm will tell the dispatcher what blue light has been activated and where it is located and an officer will respond.
