Overview
Like most organizations, the University of West Florida wants to do everything in its power to protect the personal information of our students, faculty and staff. Identity theft continues to be an issue that all of us are concerned about.
Here are the steps we've taken to protect your personal information:
The University of West Florida does not use social security numbers as key identifiers in any of our electronic systems. This will protect your personal information and guard against identity theft. This policy applies to students, faculty, staff members, and other persons who do business with UWF that would require a key identifier in our systems.
All current students, faculty and staff are issued a nine-digit number, UWF ID, as a key identifier.
Your UWF ID is displayed on the front of your Nautilus card.
Your records in the UWF system are accessed using your ID number rather than your social security number.
Access to the UWF systems that must contain social security numbers, such as payroll and financial aid applications, are restricted to authorized users.
UWF ID numbers start with either "97" or "96." The "97" series of numbers are given to all current and past students, faculty and staff members. Anyone who needs a Nautilus Card to access university services such as the fitness center or library will have an ID number beginning with "96."
