AppRiver Invests in UWF Computing Disciplines
In anticipation of the growth of UWF computing disciplines, the School of Science and Engineering has identified several priorities that require private support. One of these is the ability to attract top graduate students who will be able to conduct research and garner additional grant monies in areas for which faculty perceive there is a regional need. Through the support of graduate students, faculty become encouraged to better understand regional needs and advance entrepreneurial agendas that benefit the innovation resident within a community.
According to Director Leo ter Haar, "The opportunities for graduate students to assist faculty with research are limited only by our ability to attract excellent candidates with an attractive stipend and engaging them with relevant state-of-the-art projects. AppRiver's leadership and support of this need comes at the perfect time. We are honored they have chosen to invest in our students in this special way." Read More
Successful 21st century science, technology, engineering and math programs have to focus attention on learning environments, in which all students have ample opportunity for practicing science and sharing their discoveries.
In response to the escalating need for graduates who can meet rapidly changing industry demands in the scientific fields critical to building and maintaining a strong regional and national economy, the University Of West Florida has established a School of Science and Engineering.
The school hosts programs including Computer Science, computer information science, computer and electrical engineering, computer engineering, mathematics and statistics, physics and software engineering. These programs will come together in our new four-story, showcase building, designed to fuel the imagination.
Among many of the building's features we can find a prototype robot fabrication and testing laboratories, a 3-D virtual reality simulator and a glass walled atrium, that will put science on display.
