Volunteer Notetaker Information
The Student Disability Resource Center’s (SDRC) Note Taking Service helps qualified students with disabilities locate volunteer notetakers. In most instances, notetakers are students recruited from the class during the first week of the semester. Once you have been accepted for the volunteer notetaker position, SDRC will contact you regarding the following registration process.
In order to register to be volunteer notetaker, there are three steps you must complete:
- VOLUNTEER AGREEMENT: Once you have agreed to be a notetaker for a SDRC student, you are required to submit a Volunteer Notetaker Agreement Form to SDRC. This must be done each semester you volunteer to take notes. Without this form, we are unable to properly document your service. If this is your first time volunteering as a notetaker, please complete the Volunteer Notetaking Training (below) as soon as you submit the Agreement Form.
- REQUIRED TRAINING: All notetakers are required to review the online Volunteer Notetaking Training in order to complete the process of registering as a volunteer for SDRC. The purpose of this tutorial is to provide volunteers with information about notetaking service procedures as well as tips for taking quality notes. You are only required to review this tutorial one time. Once you have completed this training, SDRC will be notified via email. This training will take approximately 30 minutes and may be counted toward your volunteer hours. To begin tutorial, click here: Volunteer Notaking Training Presentation
- ARGOSERVICE HOURS: In exchange for your assistance, you will receive ArgoService hours that are logged through ArgoPulse. Logged ArgoService hours will appear on your Student Involvement Report in ArgoPulse. This resource can be used as a means of evaluating leadership positions and award applications and can be used as an addendum to an academic transcript for scholarships and various forms of employment. In order to receive service hours with SDRC, you must register in ArgoPulse. Service hours consist of the number of hours you spend in class taking notes and add 30 minutes a week to organize and deliver the notes.
