Core Competencies Covered on the Comprehensive Exam
All students are required to take and pass a proctored, closed-book, type-written Comprehensive Exam with a grade of 70% or better. Policies and procedures for taking the Comprehensive Exam are
set forth in the
Master of Public Health Comprehensive Exam Guide. The exam is designed to assess the student's level of mastery of the five core competency areas acquired in the MPH core courses (see areas in table below). Students will be given hypothetical situations that relate to their coursework in the MPH program and will be required to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on their knowledge of the core principles of public health.
Students are encouraged to keep their course notes from the core courses and use these as study guides alongside the
reading materials indicated below for each core course.
