The Association for Health Care Ethics was established at the University of West Florida under the School of Allied Health and Life Sciences in 2007, with Dr. Gretchen Norling serving as Association Director. The Association evolved from the former Type III Center for Health Care Ethics housed under Division of Life and Health Sciences in the Spring of 2003. The original Center was an outgrowth of the University Office for Applied Ethics which was organized in the Fall of 2000, under the direction of Dr. Barry Arnold, the first Center Director. The dedication of the Advisory Boards of the Office for Applied Ethics and the School of Allied Health and Life Sciences paved the way for the successful evolution of the Office for Applied Ethics into the current Association for Health Care Ethics. The Association has partnered with all area hospitals and hospices in countless productive ways.
